Student Wellbeing

Students’ health, safety and wellbeing are essential to learning and development. An inclusive, safe, orderly and stimulating environment for learning is critical to achieving and sustaining students’ positive learning experiences. To enable us to achieve this we are in the process of becoming a KidsMatter school, and we are already running a comprehensive social skills program.

KidsMatter Primary is a mental health and wellbeing framework for primary schools and is proven to make a positive difference to the lives of Australian children. KidsMatter Primary provides the methods, tools and support to help schools work with parents and carers, health services and the wider community, to nurture happy, balanced kids. Under the Framework of KidsMatter we implement the You Can Do It and Bounce Back programs to teach students positive social skills.

Restorative Practices gives us the framework from which to respond to inappropriate student behaviours. Students are encouraged to articulate and think about their behaviour - thinking about who has been affected and how they can make amends. They complete the process by discussing with staff ways to avoid this behaviour in the future and making an apology to parties that deserve it. In addition to our school programs we also have access to regional services via referral to Social Workers, Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Speech Therapists.
